Physical and Mechanical Properties of Fir and Poplar Subjected to Tall Oil and Vacuum Heat Treatment

Vacuum heat treatment creates an oxygen-free environment, thus positively effects the properties of wood compared to traditional treatment. Crude tall oil is a non-biocidal preservative, composed resin and fatty acids improves some such as water uptake decay resistance. In this study, dissolved in ethanol (10% 20%) for impregnation fir poplar samples according full cell method, followed by subjected vacuum-heat at 180 ºC 200 1 2 h respectively. Water mechanical tests bending compression strength untreated treated were investigated. Results showed that weight percent gain (WPG) was about two times higher 20% than 10% oil. similar trend with control terms uptake, while combined vacuum heating lowered uptake. The results indicated not affected Combination improved strength.
